    Alert message sent 11/03/2021 15:46:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Somersham District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 3rd to 10th March:

Parkhall Road, Somersham – Police received reports of three off-road motorbikes being ridden in a fast and dangerous manner up and down Parkhall Road on Thursday afternoon, 4th March. The riders were not reported to be wearing any helmets. Officers were able to stop one of the bikes. Its teenage rider was returned home and extensive road safety advice was arranged to be given. (Refs CC-04032021-0250 and CC-04032021-0253)

Somersham – Officers gave words of advice about breaching Covid-19 regulations to a Somersham resident who contacted police on Sunday 7th March on a different matter, when they described being on Hunstanton beach for recreation the previous Saturday afternoon. (Ref CC-07032021-0528)

Springfield, Somersham – Police received a report of cold-callers knocking on the doors at a sheltered housing development at Springfield on Wednesday afternoon, 10th March. Cold-calling is not illegal but police strongly advise against engaging with them or buying anything from them. These salesmen were reportedly not wearing any face-masks and had ignored stickers saying ‘No Cold Canvassing’. (Ref CC-10032021-0226)

And Finally – A Warning About Catalytic Converter Thefts:

Police have issued a warning about catalytic converter thefts, following 40 incidents being reported across the County in the last month:

“In less time than it takes to make a cup of tea, they’ll go onto a driveway and strip the vehicle of the precious metal and be on their way to the next victim.

“Toyotas and Hondas have predominantly been targeted, but other vehicles including Lexus, Mercedes, Mazda and Volkswagen have also been singled out".
