  • February update from the St Neots Neighbourhood Team

    Alert message sent 11/02/2021 15:31:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

    Dear Subscriber,

This is the first of a series of regular updates on what has been happening in your area and what the St Neots neighbourhood team are working on over the coming weeks.

You will also find some crime prevention advice and some good news stories.
We hope you find this update useful and informative.

    Best wishes
    Sergeant Rob Streater
    St Neots Neighbourhood Team

    What’s going on
We’re pleased to welcome two new additional officers to the St Neots team, PC Jack Priestman and PC Sam Lokuliyange-Perea. They have been familiarising themselves with the area and the communities they will be serving.

We’re concerned that those higher up in the county lines chain are using the tactic of robbing their own young dealers to ensure they are indebted to the gang indefinitely. The offset of this within the community is that this in turn causes anti-social behaviour and associated crime.

We’ve been focusing some of our efforts on targeting those who have been preying on the most vulnerable members of our community. Through plain clothed work, targeted patrols, nights and days of action and partner agency working we have been able to identify the young people deemed most at harm of County Lines exploitation and point them in the direction of agencies who can offer support to curb their offending and get them on the right track. We’ve also identified some of those responsible.

As the eyes and ears of our community, we welcome any information you may have in relation to drug activity or dealing and will do everything we can to action intelligence where we can. You can report it to us online or by emailing StNeotsNPT@cambs.pnn.police.uk.

    Good news
Another area of concern has been an increase in racially aggravated/prejudice incidents and we’re pleased to say that we charged and remanded a man for racially aggravated offences within the town of St Neots.

Racism has no place in modern Britain or within the multi-cultural communities that we all live within and enjoy on a daily basis. Any reports of racist activity are taken extremely seriously and we make every effort to protect those exposed to it whilst using the full force of the law to make those responsible accountable for their actions.

We’ve also charged and remanded two people for aggravated burglaries and carried out a number of warrants targeting those intent on selling drugs from their properties. Warrants are predominately led by information received from the public so please continue to report your suspicions to us. Here are some things we ask you to look out for.

Kane Mitchell has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering an 11-week-old baby.

A man who targeted vehicles for valuables while the owners were asleep in Little Paxton has been sentenced.

    COVID19
Unfortunately, we’ve had to attend numerous reports of Covid breaches within the area of St Neots, including gatherings, businesses operating that shouldn't and people who have tested positive but are not isolating.

There have also been incidents of people refusing to wear face masks in shops and being abusive towards staff.

Paying rule-breakers a visit could cause delay in us reaching people who really need our help and therefore we urge people to adhere to the rules set out by the government to prevent the spread and save lives as well as reducing pressure on the amazing work of the NHS.

Thank you once again to all the wonderful people in our communities who are keeping to the rules and our appreciation to the army of other key workers out there doing an amazing job.

    Crime prevention and useful information
Do you own a transit van or know someone who does? In recent weeks we’ve seen an increase in vans being either stolen or tools taken from inside.

We’ve also seen incidents where opportunist thieves are trying car door handles. Is your car locked? Why not take 30 seconds now to double check. More vehicle security advice is available here.

Do you have a dog? There has been a spike in dog thefts during the pandemic; something which we’ve experienced locally too. Further advice on keeping your pet safe is available here.

This week we acknowledged Safer Internet Day. With more of us spending more of our lives online at the moment, whether it be shopping, work meetings or virtual catch ups, it’s important to keep up to date on our online safety skills. You’ll find more information here.
