  • Weekly Policing Update - Somersham District

    Alert message sent 02/04/2021 12:09:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Somersham District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 26th March to 1st April:

Parkhall Road, Somersham – Police issued an alert to patrols in the Somersham area concerning motorbikes being ridden along Parkhall Road in a dangerous manner on Wednesday afternoon and evening, 31st March. Two motorbikes were seen being ridden dangerously at around 4:00 pm, one rider not wearing a helmet. Later in the evening, one rider was reported to be doing wheelies and speeding repeatedly up and down the road. (Refs CC-31032021-0460 and CC-31032021-0435)

And Finally – Hoax Emergency Calls:

Two Ramsey teenagers were responsible for several hoax 999 calls to the Force Control Room this week, initially calls consisting of laughing and swearing down the phone, but finally making a call alleging that they had been chased by two persons with knives.

Police responded but also tracked the phone used to make the call. When officers arrived at the scene, the two suspects were located, one of whom was in possession of the phone. When challenged about the hoax calls, they appeared unconcerned about their actions or the police resources that they had needlessly tied up.

Hoax calls take police time away from people who really need their help. Just one minute can make all the difference in an emergency. Misusing the 999 system and using it for non-emergency matters to report crimes or emergencies that do not exist can cost lives. If you are found to be making a hoax call, you could be fined or even sent to prison.
