Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Ramsey District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 24th February to 2nd March:

St Mary’s Road, Ramsey – On Wednesday morning 24th February, 6 or 7 men suspected of hare-coursing with two dogs were spotted on fields near St Mary’s Road. No trace was found when officers searched the area but a group thought to be same people was spotted later near Doddington, and police succeeded in seizing two off-road vehicles that had been abandoned in a field. (Refs CC-24022021-0083 and CC-24022021-0061)

Wood Lane, Ramsey – Police are investigating reports of the thefts of items such as flowers, holders and personal objects from graves at the cemetery on Wood Lane, and are aware of several such incidents, most recently reported on Saturday 27th February. (Ref 35/11681/21)

Herne Road, Ramsey St Mary’s – A report received on Sunday 28th February of very frequent speeding of cars and lorries along Herne Road, exceeding the 30 and 40 mph limits, has been passed to the Neighbourhood Policing Team for them to be aware of on their patrols of the area. It has also been suggested that the Council should be approached about potential traffic calming measures. (Ref CC-28022021-0196)

Covid-19 Regulation Breaches – A Message from Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Police received four reports of potential breaches of the Covid-19 regulations in Ramsey this week.

“Across the County as a whole, 198 calls were received over just the weekend, a ten percent increase compared to the weekend before. Many calls related to groups gathering in open spaces, memorial fields and recreation grounds, to name a few.

“Whilst it is lovely to see some sunshine, please do not be tempted to break the guidelines. We are all in this together and we all have a responsibility to follow the rules.

“As always, thank you to everyone playing their part and helping to save lives.”

And Finally – Warning of A ‘National Insurance Number’ Telephone Scam:

My thanks to an Ecops subscriber in Somersham with experience of this telephone scam, for drawing my attention to it.

Action Fraud, the UK Centre for cyber-crime and fraud reporting and investigation, issued an alert to the public recently after receiving over a thousand extra calls in one week about the scam.

Victims received an automated telephone call telling them that their ‘National Insurance Number had been compromised’ and in order to fix it and get a new number, they should press number 1 on their phone to be connected to a service agent.

However, the agent was in fact a criminal who pressured victims into giving their personal details, to be used in subsequent fraud.

Action Fraud advise that people remain vigilant and cautious of any calls suggesting that their National Insurance Number has been compromised. If you have any doubts, hang up the phone.
