    Alert message sent 15/02/2021 15:51:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

    Dear Subscriber,

This is the first of a series of regular updates on what has been happening in your area and what the St Ives neighbourhood team are working on over the coming weeks.

You will also find some crime prevention advice and some good news stories.
We hope you find this update useful and informative.

    Best wishes
    Sergeant Alice Draper
    St Ives Neighbourhood Team

    What’s going on
We’ve been responding to concerns around anti-social behaviour and parking issues in St Ives. Community protection warnings have been issued to people who continue to hang around the bus station and on park benches close to the town car park. A number of fixed penalty notices as well as advisory notices have been issued to vehicles parked in Station Road, West Street and Market Hill.

Words of advice have been given to those riding e-scooters. It’s currently illegal to ride e-scooters and similar devices on public roads, cycle lanes or pathways. If you own one then ensure you know the law.

Lastly, there have been some attempted burglaries in Needingworth Road and Fairfields Crescent in St Ives. Please ensure your garden gates, garage doors, windows and doors are locked.

    Good news
We executed a drugs warrant in Granta Close, St Ives and arrested two people after class A drugs, thousands of pounds in cash and an imitation firearm were found.

During patrols of the Park and Ride site in St Ives and Warboys over the weekend, a number of people were spoken to regarding breaching Covid regulations. On both occasions people were also in possession of drugs which we seized and dealt with.

    COVID19
Unfortunately, we’ve had to attend numerous reports of Covid breaches within the area of St Ives, including gatherings, businesses operating that shouldn't and people who have tested positive but are not isolating.

There have also been incidents of people refusing to wear face masks in shops and being abusive towards staff.

Paying rule-breakers a visit could cause delay in us reaching people who really need our help and therefore we urge people to adhere to the rules set out by the government to prevent the spread and save lives as well as reducing pressure on the amazing work of the NHS.

Thank you once again to all the wonderful people in our communities who are keeping to the rules and our appreciation to the army of other key workers out there doing an amazing job.

    Crime prevention and useful information
Do you own a transit van or know someone who does? In recent weeks we’ve seen an increase in vans being either stolen or tools taken from inside.

We’ve also seen incidents where opportunist thieves are trying car door handles. Is your car locked? Why not take 30 seconds now to double check. More vehicle security advice is available here.

Do you have a dog? There has been a spike in dog thefts during the pandemic; something which we’ve experienced locally too. Further advice on keeping your pet safe is available here.

Last week we acknowledged Safer Internet Day. With more of us spending more of our lives online at the moment, whether it be shopping, work meetings or virtual catch ups, it’s important to keep up to date on our online safety skills. You’ll find more information here.
