    Alert message sent 10/02/2021 16:17:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Ramsey District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 2nd to 9th February:

West Avenue, Ramsey – Thieves broke a padlocked chain to steal a set of ladders that had been left secured to a fence in a parking area off West Avenue at some time between Sunday morning, 31st January, and Monday morning, 1st February, leaving just the broken padlock behind. Police hope that CCTV might have recorded the crime taking place. (Ref 35/6499/21)

Daintree Road, Ramsey St Mary’s – Thieves drove up to a property on Daintree Road at just before 1:00 pm on Tuesday 2nd February and stole a quantity of scrap metal that was being stored there. The owner subsequently discovered that heating oil had also been siphoned off and stolen from a storage tank. CCTV footage may be available to help in the investigation. (Ref 35/6499/21)

Palmer Close, Ramsey – A Seat car was stolen from a parking bay outside its owner’s house on Palmer Close, most probably at around 5:30 pm on Monday 1st February. The thief is thought to have entered the house via an insecure front door to steal the car keys, then taken the car. Investigations are continuing. (Ref 35/6651/21)

Great Whyte – Police received several reports of a group of people behaving in an anti-social manner in a shop and along Great Whyte on Thursday afternoon, 4th February. About five adults and three children were seen. The adults were drinking from bottles and one male appeared very drunk, shouting and swearing and standing in the middle of the road. The male was also seen to smash a bottle on the ground and to throw objects at people and passing vehicles. Officers attended and searched the area, but unfortunately no-one matching the description could be found. (Ref CC-04022021-0213)

Ugg Mere Court Road, Ramsey St Mary’s – Two men in a pick-up truck drove in to the yard of a house on Ugg Mere Court Road on Sunday afternoon, 7th February and enquired if there were any items for sale. However they became abusive and threatening before driving off again. (Ref 35/7482/21)

Ramsey – Police visited a shop in Ramsey after receiving a report that several customers were being admitted without face masks. As this was the first such incident at this address, words of advice were given to the shop owner. (Ref CC-07022021-0244)

And Finally – Police Advice About Dog Thefts:

There has been an increase in reports of dog thefts both nationally and locally during the pandemic.

Here’s some of our key steps in keeping your pets safe:

    - Keep an ID tag on your dog at all times (your surname, mobile number and address only).

    - Secure gates using bolts at the top and bottom, along with a heavy-duty padlock and gate alarm.

    - Never leave your pet in the garden unattended.

    - Make sure your dog is microchipped and their details are updated so that they can be returned if they are stolen and subsequently found.

    - Avoid leaving a dog tied up outside a shop or left alone in a car, even for a few minutes.
