  • Weekly Policing Update - Earith and Needingworth District

    Alert message sent 28/12/2020 15:41:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Earith and Needingworth District Members –

It has been a very difficult week for lots of people, with flooding across the district bringing misery to many families, and the revised Covid-19 regulations reducing the amount of social interaction we are allowed. But in the true spirit of Christmas, the community has come together and there have been some really uplifting stories of people supporting and looking out for each other, and help from the emergency and support services.

    Covid-19 Tier 4 Restrictions:

As you will now know, the whole of Cambridgeshire has now been placed into Tier 4 restrictions. This means that we have to stay at home as much as possible and not meet with anybody indoors unless they live with us or are part of our support bubble. Outdoors, we are only allowed to meet with one person from another household.

Full details are on the Government web-site:

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home

Meanwhile, here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 20th to 27th December:

B1040 Bluntisham Heath Road Crossroads – A white Fiesta van drove into the back of another car whilst it was halted at the Heath Road crossroads on Wednesday afternoon, 23rd December. The van then reversed and drove off towards Somersham without stopping. It is thought that the van would have sustained severe front-end damage as a result of the collision. Police were quickly at the scene and searched the area for the van, but unfortunately no trace was found. (Ref CC-23122020-0328)

A1123 Needingworth Bypass – Police had to close the Needingworth bypass late on Wednesday evening, 23rd December, due to flooding. (Ref CC-23122020-0707)

Earith – Police had to fix chains to secure the flood barrier at Earith village on Thursday evening, 24th December, after the padlock was found to have been broken off, leaving the gates open. The causeway had previously been closed by the Environment Agency due to flood water inundating the road, making it too dangerous for traffic to pass. (Ref CC-24122020-0544)

Bluntisham – Thieves broke into the back garden of a house in Bluntisham and took a Yorkshire terrier dog, at some time overnight on Saturday 26th / Sunday 27th December. The dog is a six-year old miniature Yorkshire terrier, with black and tan colouring. (Ref 35/87259/20)

Holywell Front – Police began close monitoring of the water level at Holywell Front on Sunday afternoon, 27th December, following rising floods and more rain forecast overnight. By midnight the level had risen slightly but was estimated to be about four feet away from the nearest houses. Monitoring was continuing during Monday 28th. (Ref CC-27122020-0239)

Earith – Police continued monitoring flood levels at Earith on Sunday afternoon, 27th December, at which time the river was estimated to be about one metre below the top of its bank. However, levels continued to rise throughout the night and monitoring was continuing throughout Monday. (Ref CC-27122020-0315)
