Tunker’s Lane, Bury – Police were called by a power company needing to access a sub-station on Tunker’s Lane, Bury, in the early hours of Friday morning, 12th June, but were unable to do so due to the entrance being blocked by a parked car. A power cut affecting over 80 houses had happened and the engineers needed urgent access to fix the problem. Officers attended the home address of the registered owner and had the car moved. A141 Warboys – Police stopped a suspicious VW car on the A141 at Warboys on Friday morning, 12th June and issued a Traffic Offence Report for a number-plate infringement. (Ref CC-12062020-0137)
RAF Upwood – Police received a report of several cars parked up near the entrance to the disused RAF Upwood site on Friday evening, 12th June, with people seen walking into the base. A police patrol was diverted to attend and officers found several more cars present when they arrived. One person found on the site was spoken to who contacted the others by phone, and all people and cars were eventually moved off the site. (Ref CC-12062020-0535)
Warboys – Police are investigating an incident reported to have happened in Warboys on Saturday afternoon, 13th June, in which one car drove into the side of another at a bend on a residential street, causing substantial damage to the rear end. The driver of the first car was reported to have behaved aggressively and threateningly towards the other driver, and refused to provide insurance company details. (Ref 35/38345/20)
RAF Upwood – Police were called back to the RAF Upwood site on Saturday afternoon, 13th June, following a report of more trespassers seen there, entering dangerous derelict buildings. At least three people had been seen, but they had left by the time a police patrol arrived to check. (Ref CC-13062020-0395)
RAF Upwood / Redebourn Lane – Police responded to a report that people from three cars had entered the RAF Upwood site by interfering with a gate, on Saturday evening, 13th June. Security staff had re-secured the gate, trapping the intruders on the site. However, they were then seen climbing out over a barbed-wire fence and returning to their cars. A police patrol arrived in time locate the cars, speak to the occupants and give words of advice before instructing them to leave the area. (Ref CC-13062020-0395)
Wistow Fen Lane – Police seized and towed away a green Audi car found on Wistow Fen Lane on Sunday afternoon, 14th June, when checks showed that it had no valid insurance. One person was also arrested and taken into custody for driving offences. (Ref CC-14062020-0365)
Redebourn Lane, Bury – Police searched the area around Redebourn Lane and an entrance onto the RAF Upwood site late on Monday evening following a report that intruders with torches had been seen opening a gate and trespassing on the base. Officers secured the open gate but no-one was found in the area. (Ref CC-14062020-0549)
RAF Upwood – Security staff intercepted four persons who had climbed under a fence to enter the disused RAF Upwood site on Monday evening, 15th June. However, they apologised and left the site, so no police attendance was required. (Ref CC-15062020-0514)
And Finally – A Warning About the Disused RAF Upwood Site:
Demolition is about to begin on the disused RAF Upwood base and the company doing the work is asking everyone to keep out, as the site is extremely dangerous. New warning signs and fences have been put up but people, including children, have been ignoring them and venturing onto the site. This is extremely dangerous and trespassers run great risk of injury or worse – for your own safety, everyone should keep out.
