Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary
Good Afternoon, Earith and Needingworth District Members –
Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 1st to 9th January. I am sorry the report is a couple of days later than usual – there have been some computer problems.
Bluntisham Heath Road - Police and the Fire Brigade were called to a compost blaze at an industrial site at the junction of Bluntisham Heath Road and the B1040 St Ives Road on Tuesday afternoon, 1st January. Heath Road needed to be closed due to smoke drifting across and affecting visibility and diversions were set up which had to remain in place due to the fire continuing to burn and generate heavy smoke.
As of Thursday 10th January, the Fire Brigade intend to re-open the road this morning but are prepared to close it again if the situation deteriorates.
The Police are aware that cones blocking the road have been moved several times by members of the public wanting access, but patrols have been asked to ensure that for obvious safety reasons, the closure measures remain in place. (Ref CC-01012019-0364)
Needingworth Road, Needingworth – There was a break-in and burglary at commercial premises on Needingworth Road, Needingworth, on Monday evening, 7th January. Following an alarm sounding, police arrived to find that metal roller doors had been bent back and a glass door panel broken. Inside the premises money had been stolen from a till, other damage caused and possibly other items also stolen. Investigations are continuing. (Ref 35/1811/19)
Wheatley Crescent, Bluntisham – Police are investigating a break-in and burglary at a house on Wheatley Crescent, Bluntisham, that happened at between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Thursday 3rd January whilst the owners were out. Intruders entered by forcing a patio door at the back, then carried out an untidy search before leaving, having stolen items of jewellery and other personal property. Enquiries at neighbouring houses have been carried out and police are aware of a report of a suspicious person seen in the area at around 5:00 pm. (Ref 35/664/19)
Somersham Road, Colne– Police are investigating a break-in and burglary at a house on Somersham Road, Colne, that happened on Thursday afternoon, 3rd January, whilst the owners were absent for a few hours. Intruders entered through a back door then carried out a thorough search of several rooms. Nothing is believed to have been taken from the house, however a car left parked outside was also entered and a quantity of cash was stolen from inside. (Ref 35/736/19)
The Heath, Bluntisham – A downstairs window at a house on The Heath, Bluntisham, was damaged at some time during the night of Friday 4th / Saturday 5th January. One pane of the double-glazed unit was smashed but the house was not entered and no other offences appear to have been committed. (Ref 35/944/19)
