Many Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators in Cambridgeshire have expressed a wish to become more involved in helping victims of crime in their areas. Restrictions on data exchange have meant that information passed to Coordinators has, until now, been very limited. Your county association has, for sometime, been encouraging the police to find solutions to allow us to become more involved and I am pleased to say we now have an opportunity to demonstrate we want to be more involved and help both victims and the police to reduce crime and make our communities feel safer.
Cambridgeshire Police are launching a major crime prevention operation on Wednesday 21st February and jointly with them, we want to support this with the start of a new NHW crime victim initiative. As someone who has indicated previously that you would consider greater invlovemrnt, I am now asking you to consider supporting this initiative.
The initiative involves you visiting victims of dwelling burglary, where a victim has agreed, to offer crime prevention and support advice. You will be contacted directly by the police and asked to visit a victim by appointment. The area of attendance will be agreed by you during induction and training.
I do hope you will be able to give your support and become one of the first volunteers to be trained. An induction and training session has been arranged to take place at Police Headquarters, Huntingdon on Wednesday 21st February starting at 7pm. If you cannot make this session, further sessions will be planned for a later date.
Please let me know if you would like to take up this new opportunity to help victims of crime in your area.
Chairman Cambs. NHW
