Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Ramsey District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 24th January to 1st February:

Newtown Road / Neil Way, Ramsey – Police issued an alert to patrols following reports of cars including a blue Toyota and a white Vauxhall van, speeding and doing hand-brake turns on the icy surface of a car-park on Newtown Road on Sunday afternoon, 24th January. The vehicles were a danger to pedestrians using the car park, but had all moved on when officers arrived to check the situation. (Ref CC-24012021-0263).

There was a similar report of cars being driven dangerously around a car park on Neil Way later in the evening, but all was quiet when officers arrived to check. (Ref CC-24012021-0520)

Great Whyte – Police searched the town centre for a dark blue or black off-road motor-bike that was seen being ridden along Great Whyte in a dangerous manner on Monday afternoon, 25th January. CCTV showed the bike being ridden along a footpath, then almost being hit by a van before being ridden down Great Whyte on the wrong side of the road. (Ref CC-25012021-0287)

Stocking Fen Road – The door to an electricity supply cabinet at a community building on Stocking Fen Road was broken open at some time overnight on Tuesday 26th / Wednesday 27th January, and the main fuse stolen from inside. This resulted in the loss of power to the building, affecting equipment including freezers. (Ref 35/4981/21)

Whittlesey Road, Benwick – Police pursued a silver Mercedes estate car seen with hare-coursers on land off Whittlesey Road on Friday lunchtime, 29th January. The pursuit ended at a drove at Ramsey Mereside, where two persons were detained and the Mercedes was seized and towed away. (Ref CC-29012021-0173)

The Hollow, Ramsey – Police arrested one person for failing to provide a specimen following an incident at The Hollow on Sunday evening, 31st January, in which a car left the road, crashed into a ditch and burst into flames. Fortunately no-one was hurt, but the Fire Brigade could not prevent the car being completely destroyed in the blaze. (Ref CC-31012021-0394)

Serjeants Close, Ramsey – Police issued seven Covid fines to people gathered at an address on Serjeants Close on Sunday evening, 31st January. (Ref CC-31012021-0378)

Stocking Fen Road – Thieves broke in to a construction site on Stocking Fen Road at some time overnight on Monday 1st / Tuesday 2nd February and stole four large gas cylinders. Because of the weight of the cylinders it is thought that the thieves must have driven a vehicle on to the site. (Ref 35/6381/21)
