Good Evening, Warboys District Members –
Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, covering the period 26th April to 4th May:
Covid-19 - Although the vast majority of people have been following the Government’s instructions on staying home and maintaining social-distancing, police have continued to received reports of groups of people congregating and ignoring the Covid-19 regulations. Where necessary, people have been dispersed with words of advice given, and the need to stay home and stay apart has been explained. In some cases, Fixed Penalty Notice fines have been issued under the Covid-19 regulations.
Please remember how vital it is that we all stay home and only go out when it is essential. Thank you to everyone for doing this – stay home, save lives.
RAF Upwood, Bury – The Fire Brigade were called to the disused RAF Upwood site on Tuesday evening, 28th April, to put out a fire in a derelict building that is thought to have been started deliberately. This is the most recent in a series of arson attacks at the site in recent weeks. (Ref 35/28199/20)
RAF Upwood, Bury – Police received several calls reporting cars speeding on the old runway at the disused RAF Upwood site, creating a disturbance by doing hand-brake turns and figures-of-eight, at Thursday lunchtime, 30th April. A police patrol was dispatched and officers spotted at least four cars on the runway in the distance, but unfortunately they were too far away to intercept and managed to get off the runway through one of the unofficial access points. (Ref CC-30042020-0198)
RAF Upwood – Police received a large number of calls reporting more vehicles, including cars, motorbikes and a Transit van, speeding and racing around the runways at RAF Upwood on Saturday afternoon, 2nd May. Police patrols were dispatched and several vehicles were spotted before they made off. Police are aware that racing on the runway is becoming a regular occurrence and the Neighbourhood Policing Team is alerted to the problem. (Ref CC-02052020-0158)
RAF Upwood – Police were called back to RAF Upwood on Sunday afternoon, 3rd May, following a report of a disturbance due to cars doing hand-brake turns and ‘donuts’ on the disused runways. An access point onto the runway was also blocked off to act as a deterrent to further incidents. (Ref CC-03052020-0224)
RAF Upwood – Officers patrolling the disused RAF Upwood site on Sunday afternoon, 3rd May, disrupted two cars being driven in a dangerous manner on the runway, doing wheel-spinning and ‘drifting’.
