Good Afternoon, St Ives District Members –
Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 13th to 19th August:
B1040 Somersham Road / Heath Road Crossroads – Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to a collision between two cars at the Heath Road crossroads on the B1040 on Wednesday afternoon, 14th August. The road was closed for a time whilst the emergency services dealt with the incident, but fortunately no-one was reported to have been seriously hurt. (Ref CC-14082019-0279)
Harrison Way – A ticket machine at a car-park on Harrison Way was broken into and robbed at some time between Thursday afternoon, 15th, and Friday morning, 16th August. A metal plate on the machine was removed to give access to the cash box inside, which was stolen. (Ref 35/58416/19)
Somersham Road – Police and the Fire Brigade were called to an incident on Somersham Road on Friday evening, 16th August, in which a single car left the road and crashed into a hedge. Heavy black smoke was seen coming from the car, but the Fire Brigade dealt with the situation. One person in the car fortunately escaped unhurt. (Ref CC-16082019-0412)
Somersham Road – There was a break-in and burglary at a farm building on Somersham Road late on Friday evening, 16th August. Intruders smashed a lock to get inside a barn, then stole several items including a Yamaha quad-bike, an Ifor Williams trailer and various tools, possibly loading the smaller items onto the trailer in order to steal them. (Ref 35/58684/19)
Dryden Close – An intruder was disturbed whilst trying to break in to a shed in the garden of a house on Dryden Close in the early hours of Sunday 18th August. The occupants heard a loud noise and looked out to see a male running away. The shed door was later found to have been damaged but fortunately had remained secure. (Ref 35/58836/19)
Waveney Road – Police received a report of suspicious behaviour by a male in dark clothing, seen walking up and down Waveney Road and looking into parked cars, at just after midnight early on Monday morning, 19th August. A police patrol was quickly at the location and officers searched the area, but unfortunately no-one matching the description could be found. (Ref CC-19082019-0001)
London Road – Police and an ambulance were called to a collision between a car and a van at the A14 end of London Road on Monday morning, 19th August, in which one vehicle had rolled onto its side, blocking the carriageway. Fortunately no-one was seriously hurt and the road was clear again once recovery services had towed the overturned vehicle away. (Ref CC-19082019-0096)
And Finally … Police Appeal for Information
Police have issued an appeal for information following an incident that happened in Morrison’s supermarket on Parson’s Green at around 1:30 pm on Wednesday 14th August, in which a man exposed himself whilst standing next to a girl who was shopping with her parents at the time. The man retreated when the girl’s parents approached him.
