    Alert message sent 31/07/2019 16:06:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, St Ives District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community reported to police during the period 23rd to 30th July:

Houghton Road – A black Range-Rover was stolen from the driveway of a house on Houghton Road at some time between 7:00 pm on Tuesday 23rd and 5:00 am the following morning, Wednesday 24th July. No evidence of the theft was left behind at the scene and the keys were not stolen with the car. However, the car was subsequently found abandoned in a communal car-park in Peterborough some hours later. (Ref 35/52465/19)

Stanpoint Way – The owner of a VW car left parked outside a house on Stanpoint Way was woken in the night on Wednesday 24th July by the sound of someone trying to smash its windscreen with a brick. When this attempt failed, the suspect ran off, leaving the windscreen glass chipped and cracked. (Ref 35/52659/19)

Ramsey Road – Police are investigating a robbery at a post office on Ramsey Road that happened on Wednesday afternoon, 24th July in which a suspect threatened staff before taking a handful of £20 notes from the till and running off down the road. Police have made enquiries at neighbouring premises and are looking at CCTV footage as part of the investigation. (Ref 35/52632/19)

Constable Road Area – A young woman was harassed and sexually assaulted by a group of three males as she was walking home in the Constable Road area of the town at around 11:00 pm on Wednesday evening, 24th July. Investigations into the incident are on-going. (Ref 35/52984/19)

Meadow Lane Park and Ride – Thieves stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota car left at the Meadow Lane Park and Ride site on Thursday afternoon, 25th July. This is the most recent in a series of catalytic converter thefts from Toyota cars at the site in recent weeks. (Ref 35/52902/19)

Meadow Lane Park and Ride – Police obtained a Dispersal Order covering St Ives and Needingworth for the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, 27th and 28th July, following concerns that an unauthorised gathering of car enthusiasts was being planned at the Meadow Lane Park and Ride site.

The Order gave officers the power to require persons suspected of anti-social behaviour to leave the area and not return within a specified period of time, and to be arrested for failure to comply.

However, following discussions between the police and the local council, the gathering did not take place and no disruption was experienced at the site.

The Quay – Police are investigating an incident that happened on The Quay in the early hours of Saturday morning, 27th July, in which a young man was discovered unconscious on the ground and taken to hospital after having apparently been assaulted. Officers are making enquiries at local addresses and are looking at CCTV footage as part of the investigation. (Ref 35/53317/19)

Harding Way – Police stopped a Citroen car on Harding Way on Saturday afternoon, 27th July, suspected of having been involved in a collision with a building in the town centre earlier in the day. A roadside breath-test returned a positive result and after making an arrest, officers discovered substances believed to be Class B and C drugs in the vehicle. (Ref 35/53315/19)

Renoir Close – A group of four or five suspects possibly wearing balaclavas were seen running away from a house on Renoir Close on Monday afternoon, 29th July, after knocking on the door and then entering the back garden. The group drove off in a silver car, possibly a VW, and damage to a padlock on the garden gate was subsequently discovered. Police searched the area for the suspect car unfortunately without success and also carried out enquiries at neighbouring houses. (Ref 35/53856/19)

Spencer Drive – Police arrested a person on suspicion of burglary and theft following a prolonged operation at an address in Spencer Drive in the early hours of Tuesday 30th July. The suspect was taken into custody in Cambridge for questioning. (Ref CC-30072019-0041)
