  • Weekly Policing Update - Warboys and Bury District

    Alert message sent 08/02/2019 16:50:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Warboys and Bury District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 1st to 7th February:

RAF Upwood, Ramsey Road, Bury – Police received a call reporting a fire on derelict land at the disused RAF Upwood site in the early hours of Friday 1st February. The call was passed to the Fire Brigade to deal with. (Ref CC-01022019-0003)

Straight Drove, Wistow – Police received a report of suspected hare-coursers in a Subaru off-road vehicle on land near Straight Drove, Wistow, at lunchtime on Sunday 3rd February. Two or three men were seen on the fields, apparently searching for a lost dog. When a police patrol arrived, the vehicle had just left, heading off in an unknown direction. (Ref CC-03022019-0203)

Warboys – Police took a person into custody on Wednesday afternoon, 6th February, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, following a collision between two cars in Warboys, one of which was stationary on the roadside at the time. (Ref CC-06022019-0300)

    And Finally… A Note on Geography…

I thought it might be useful to give a quick explanation about the geography behind these Policing Updates, as sometimes an incident that is included may not seem to belong to the locality of the report.

The reason for this is that the police record the locations of all incidents according to the Parliamentary Ward in which they occur. The Wards are the geographical units used for local and general elections and other administrative purposes, and they divide the county so that roughly the same number of people are in each one. For this reason they are oddly shaped and in rural areas can extend well beyond the main villages to include outlying areas quite some distance away.

However, the situation is slightly complicated due to the Ward boundaries changing from time to time. This is done by The Boundary Commission to try to ensure that the populations in each division remain roughly similar. Unfortunately, this has resulted in some discrepancies between the Ward maps used by Local Government and those used by the police in reporting offences… But for the present, these Policing Updates will continue to be based upon the traditional Ward divisions rather than those you will find shown on Local Government web-sites.

I hope this has helped explain the geography behind our reporting!
