Weekend of action to tackle anti-social driving

Dear Resident,

One of the priorities for your local neighbourhood team over the past few months has been tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour (ASB) and traffic offences in March, Whittlesey, and Chatteris town centres.

As part of this, they spent the past weekend targeting anti-social driving in Chatteris.

The results:

A Traffic Offence Report issued to a man caught using his mobile phone whilst driving.

Issued words of advice to a driver as their speedometer wasn’t calibrated

Assisted a member of the public with their tyre

Seized a motorbike and an e-scooter for no insurance

Located a burnt-out car which had been stolen from Littleport in January

Issued three section 59 warnings, which are issued to those committing vehicle-related ASB. The warning applies to both the vehicle and the driver, meaning that if the driver is caught using another vehicle in an anti-social manner, or another individual is caught driving this vehicle in another manner, then it can be seized.

Arrested a man in his 50s for assaulting one of our officers. He has now been charged and is due to appear in court later this month

We also tried to stop a motorbike, but it made off and was unable to be located. Thank you to all those who approached us to raise concerns about its manner of driving through the town.
