Dear Resident,
As we head further into Autumn, catch up on what our policing teams have been up to in the month of September!
Highlights from the last month:
Modern Day Slavery checks at nail salons across the city centre, checking in on staff welfare and ensuring everyone has the right to work in the UK. Continued our crackdown on illegal e-scooters and e-bikes, by seizing 35 in a day! Night time patrols in Cambridge throughout Freshers Week. We were working closely with licenced venues and handing out anti-spiking drink lids to security staff. Marked 20 more bikes, helping to reduce the risk of theft. Now time for some recent court results!
Our officers work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts and ensure justice is served. Here’s a few from this past month: A cannabis dealer who had high-powered cars, designer clothes and £52,000 in his bank account has been jailed for two years and four months. Read more here.
A man who kicked, spat at and tried to bite staff at a bar in Cambridge has been jailed for two years and one month. Read more here. A thief who stole food, wine, clothes, and toilet roll from Cambridge shops has been jailed for 26 weeks. More here. A drug dealer caught with 64 wraps of class A drugs, who said he found it in a car park, has been jailed for 27 months. You can read more here. Tips and tricks:
Our Cambridge neighbourhood team is made up of a number of officers that cover the whole of the city.
One of our current priorities is anti-social driving and motorbike and moped thefts.
We have recently been out responding to your concerns, but here are a few tips on how to keep your motorbike safe in the meantime:
1. Lock - Use a disc lock to help secure the front brake disc or a D lock on the front wheel to stop your moped being wheeled away.
2. Chain -Use a chain lock through the back wheel, this will prevent thieves from wheeling it away! 3. Cover - Make sure to cover your motorbike or moped. Thieves are often on the lookout for particular bike models; this will instantly make it less attractive to them! Antisocial use of a vehicle, such as street racing, street cruising or off-road use is more than a matter of noise pollution, it can have a wider impact on a neighbourhood or community.
