E-bike seized in Wisbech for no insurance |
||
Dear Resident,
One of the new priorities for our Wisbech neighbourhood officers is tackling e-scooters and illegal e-bikes.
On Tuesday night, we came across an e-bike on the junction of Orange Grove and Norwich Street. The rider of the bike didn’t fancy chatting to us and made off… however, he left behind both his bike and his mobile phone!
The bike has been seized for no insurance and enquiries are ongoing.
Here is a reminder of the laws around e-bikes: 🚲If you are 14 or over, you can ride an electric bike, also known as an ‘electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC), on cycle paths or anywhere else pedal bikes are allowed without a licence or insurance 🚲The electric bike must have pedals that you can use to propel it, it can have more than two wheels, must have an electric motor that can run continuously at a maximum power of no more than 250 watts, and must have no electrical assistance once you reach 15.5mph
If your e-bike fails to meet any of these requirements, it is classed as a ‘mechanically propelled vehicle’ and must be taxed and insured as either a motorbike or moped.
You can find out more about the team’s priorities, and the work they have been doing, on our website.
Kind regards, | ||
