Stabbing in Peterborough park

Dear Resident,

Our detectives are appealing for information in relation to a stabbing at Fulbridge Recreation Ground in New England this afternoon.

We received a 999 call at 1.35pm reporting the incident where a man in his 20s had been stabbed in his abdomen and was initially thought to be in a life-threatening condition.

He was taken to Peterborough City Hospital for treatment where it was established his injuries were not life-threatening, and he has since been operated on and discharged from hospital.

Detective Inspector Dean Wiffin said: β€œIt is believed the victim was approached by two males who were both wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered – it is not known how old they were.

β€œI understand this incident is concerning for the local community however I would like to reassure people that we have got officers patrolling the area and we are doing all we can to gather information and find who is responsible."

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency via our online form, web chat service or by calling 101 and quoting incident 299 of 1 May.

Information can be provided anonymously via the independent charity, Crimestoppers, their online reporting form or by calling 0800 555 111.
